is not JUST about creating something so beautiful that it is worth displaying on a wall. Art is about being open to the moment, and allowing who you are, how you feel, and how you see the world to be authentically communicated to others.
These projects are inspired by the foundational strengths that allow each fearlessly creative person to bring forth their heart's work into the world. By expressing our most authentic selves through our creativity, we develop a deep understanding of how to bring things into the world that only previously existed as a fragment of our imagination, which we believe is a literal example of magic.
Each of our projects guide students through unique experiences that develop trust, confidence, emotional awareness, and the fearlessness to express themselves freely.
CAMP Session 1
Session 1 of our Expressive Arts Summer Camp dives into the wonderful medium of watercolor! Students learn to paint with a series of playful projects based on foundational techniques--a perfect blend of instruction and experimentation. In this four day camp, students apply their new-found watercolor skills to a final project that will inspire them to create confidently for the rest of the summer, and beyond!
On their journey through our Watercolor Wonder Camp, students learn all the essentials of watercolor painting and are introduced to new materials through a variety of projects.
Our camps are suitable for all ages and are perfect for both first time painters and seasoned young artists alike.
In our first mini-project, students learn how to use resist mediums like masking fluid in their artwork and build a familiarity with positive and negative space.
Students activate their senses in this section with tactile techniques that combine paint and naturally textured materials like salt and wax.
Students delve into the endless layering properties of watercolors through mini-projects that inspire them to create depth and dimension in their works of art.
Students gain further confidence with their watercolor skills by creating both abstract and representational imagery, learning to express their ideas with paint.
Throughout the course of the camp, students build up these fundamental watercolor skills which come together in our final project, Watercolor Galaxies. Students combine technique and imagination to create a watercolor expression of the night sky.
CAMP Session 2
Session 2 of our Expressive Arts Summer Camp explores new mediums kids don't usually have the opportunity to try. Think playful, tactile, and unconventional materials like shaving cream, spray paint, joint compound, tie dye and more! Our students never know what to expect each day of this Mixed Media camp, but they can come prepared to have a blast!
Examples of Aya art Co. Mixed Media projects
In this unconventional spin on the traditional art of paper marbling, students use shaving cream as the transfer medium for a colorful and fluid design which they imprint onto paper. This playful project encourages students to let go of expectations and embrace the pleasure of process.
Summer is the season for tie dye! In this session's project, we're bringing a mixed media twist to the classic camp activity. Students will learn about modern tie dye practices, as well as a variety of tying techniques to create unique designs on their fabrics. The process encourages students to experiment freely and embrace beauty of the unexpected.
Students create their own large scale abstract painting with modeling paste and wild natural materials like sand and rocks.
Exploring the additive process, they'll use spray paint and fluid acrylics to build an expressive and colorful surface.
This project activates a fearless creativity and expands students' perception of what is considered an "art material."
With this large scale project, students use modeling paste in a precise and meditative manner. Students explore subtractive techniques and introduce paint on textured surface for a bold, color-blocked design.
This project encourages a mindful, intentional, and tactile way of making.
Mixed Media Watercolor
Students bring this mixed media watercolor work to life by engaging a variety of layering, masking, and mark-making techniques. Students who also take part in our Watercolor Wonders Camp will be able to apply their foundational painting techniques to this free-flowing process which brings abstract expression to the medium of watercolor.
