INSPIRED by CLAUDIA OF maus house
Claudia is a visual artist and illustrator from Brisbane, Australia who is very well known for her soothing, surreal landscape paintings.
In this class, we will look at a variety of Claudia's landscape paintings to get inspired by the way she uses muted colors and soft lines to create her landscapes.
This project will be broken down into two parts.
In the first part of this project, students will create the foundation of their landscape of choice through illustrating parallel, free flowing lines.
In the second part of this project, students will add color to their illustrations with chalk pastels and paint markers.

Artwork by San Diego local artist @wordrocksproject on Instagram
This bright and playful rock project is inspired by @worldrocksproject on Instagram.
They are an artist local to San Diego who leaves hand-painted rocks all over the city that features messages that promote love, kindness, and self-care.
We will explore the power and importance of kind words, affirmations, and joyful symbols, then, reflect on how they allow us to shine brighter and bring more compassion to those around us!
During the class, students will get to look at rock paintings and drawings from a variety of artists that feature calligraphy, animals, and landscapes. They will then create their own rocks with images and messages meaningful to them using acrylic paint pens.

Artwork by Claire Desjardins
Claire Desjardins is a well known Canadian abstract artist that creates eccentric, multicolored paintings with a variety of different expressionist inspired techniques.
In this class inspired by her work, we will experiment with high flow acrylic paints and acrylic mediums to create layered dot paintings.
At the beginning of class, students will mix colors to create their own unique color palette for this project.
Through playfully dropping color onto their canvas dot by dot, they will slowly watch a multicolored abstract work of art come to life!

painting
Acrylic pour painting is an incredibly hypnotizing abstract painting technique that involves simply playing with color and intentional, slow movement.
In this project, we will experiment with acrylic paints and a special pouring medium to help the paints flow across each student's canvas. We will learn some of the basics of color mixing and color theory to use as a tool to help guide our color choices so that they can reflect each artist's inner world.
Each artist will be encouraged to take their time in order to soak in every part of the creative experience. The results are often very magical and sometimes unexpected, so we will also be able to practice our ability to honor each finished piece that we bring into the world!
